Apple Valley Market to Start Phased-In Operations August 13 Under New Ownership

BERRIEN SPRINGS, MI—Apple Valley Market, which suspended operations in mid-March 2026, will restart on Thursday with a “focused opening” of the store’s highly popular specialty operations, according to Chris Corzine, store manager and spokesman for the new ownership team.

“We’re delighted to be able to revitalize this anchor of the Berrien Springs business and social community,” Corzine said. “We’re building on the great foundation this store has been for more than half a century in supporting the positive identity of this town.”

Apple Valley Market, in its present location, first opened in 1975, and was owned by Andrews University. It was operated by other private owners from 1998 until Apple Valley Market Ventures LLC took possession on May 5 of this year.

Corzine said the first phase of the new operations, starting on August 13, will include a re-start of the store’s acclaimed bakery, re-introducing its classic line of cakes (regular and vegan), cookies, pastries, and a wide variety of wholesome breads, including Apple Valley’s signature and highly popular round-loaf “sprouted wheat bread.” Reopening at the same time will be a reconfigured presentation of the well-loved Hot Foods Bar, featuring classics like Sam’s Chicken, Haystacks, Eggplant Curry and much more. 

According to Corzine, the bakery items and prepared foods will be located temporarily in what was formerly the flower shop area and the Hallmark store on the east end of the building. That area will also include basic grocery essentials while the large, main grocery area on the west end of the building is prepared for full-service operation later this year.

Corzine said that a variety of inventory items from the previous ownership will be sold at discounted prices during the initial “focused opening,” while supplies last. He also said that customers will see familiar faces returning as former employees rejoin the store under the new ownership team. 

"Our goal is to restore Apple Valley Market as the favored place the community knows and trusts," Corzine said. "We are reopening in phases so we can begin serving customers as soon as possible while continuing the work needed to bring the rest of the store back to the high standard our customers had known for decades." 

Corzine said that the ownership team appreciates the community’s patience. “We know that many in the recent months have had an understandable curiosity to know what has been happening with their beloved store,” he said. “And we are honored and encouraged by that.” He stressed that as reopening continues, Apple Valley Market’s new website will serve as the official source for store updates, hours and announcements, as well as the daily hot foods menu. Customers are urged to refer to the website for the most current and accurate information. 

“We are excited by the community support, by the new era for this business and cultural icon, and we look forward to the beginning of great things in a small way on Thursday, August 13,” Corzine said.
